Better and better

The year 2012 started as the last year ended. Bad snow conditions, cancelled, moved competitions and finally some days of sickness. But with the new year also some positive changes happened. From this season I will compete for two clubs in Romania. A new orienteering club, VSK Csikszereda was founded in my natal town in Miercurea Ciuc. So from now on I will get the medals not only for Brasov, but also for Miercurea Ciuc.

During Christmas and New Year we have been home in Sopron and I was for some days also home at my family in Romania. We planned to compete on a cross country race in Austria, but because of lack of snow the competition was moved from the eastern part to the western part so as we were also sick we decided not to travel so much just for one race.

Back in Mora we finally could ski in the Hemus ski stadium and in Grönklitt the ski gymnasium could make a very good ski-o training. Map here.

As the competitions here in Sweden were cancelled we decided to travel to Norway for a ski-o weekend with two WRE races. We traveled Friday morning, so I wasn't absolutely fit for the long distance planned Friday afternoon. I can't write to much about the race. It was a terrible fight. I had much to small baskets on my poles. On the wide tracks I could keep the speed of the group, but on the small tracks (there where many-many small tracks) I lost too much time. After over two hours I finally arrived to the finish. My map. A day to forget...

After the day to forget I had a day to remember for some time :) On Saturdays middle distance I made once again a PB. Ski-o is not like athletics to have best times, records etc. But we also can make personal bests. You can compare the world ranking points (Saturdays 1042 was my best ever) or you can compare yourself in % of the winners time (111% on Saturday was also PB). I started my race with 2 small mistakes, but could keep high speed and good orienteering. To the third last control Erik Rost catched me. I could keep his speed till the finish and had also better glide on the downhills. I'm totally satisfied with the race and of course with the waxing. Map part 1 and part 2.

Our last competition in Norway was a middle distance on Sunday. Same time the Norwegian relay championships were organized, so we competed against the other non-Norwegian competitors. I felt tired and wasn't 100% focused on my race so I made a mistake already to the second control. Later it went well with only some small route choice misses. My map. Laura made a very good race, maybe one of her best ever ski-o races. Photos from Norway made by Stein Arne Negard.

Next weekend we will compete here in Sweden and then on Monday we fly to the first World Cup round. USA, California, San Francisco here come!
